June 12, 2003 EMSL 2185 Jim Alzheimer One of Gordon Anderson's students will be presenting information on the CMUcam. I will be discussing the line maze contest, my current insights, and my plans for a BRATS entry for the October 25/26 Robothon in Seattle. Hope to see you there.
May 8, 2003 2400 Stevens, Saddle Room (Battelle only) Gordon Anderson and Jim Alzheimer This months meeting will focused on the mini sumos and the upcoming contest with the high school scholars. For those of you just starting the assembly of your boards, expert advice will be available. For those of you looking for inspiration on motors, wheels, or chassis, expert advice will be available. If you want help on programming the controller, expert advice will be available. If you want to try out your mini sumo on the ring, it will be there. If you want to see what a mini sumo looks like and get a glimpse of what is involved, come and be enlightened. We will also talk about logistics of getting to Southridge for the contest on the 23rd. I would also like some input on getting a traveling trophy ready by the 23rd with the winners of the first two contests included. If you have any other desires for the meeting, please let me know.
April 10, 2003 2400 Stevens, Saddle Room (Battelle only) Tim Stewart Tim Stewart has agreed to bring Cubot and we will discuss future group robot activities including the next mini sumo match with Southridge High School and other competitions.
March 13, 2003 EMSL 2185 (Battelle only) Gordon Anderson and Jim Alzheimer Gordon Anderson has agreed to talk about the autonomous robot they are developing to map the temperatures in one of the EMSL computer rooms. Jim Alzheimer will be bringing Cubot for a demonstration of decades old PNNL robotics technology. Discuss the upcoming Mini Sumo completion at Southridge High School.
February 13, 2003 2400 Stevens, Horseheaven Room (Battelle only) Jim Alzheimer This month's meeting topic is "Sensors for Robots". I'm planning a short talk on IR sensors for sensing the edge of the sumo ring, a line, or other objects. I may have something to discuss on sonar sensors as well.
January 9, 2003 EMSL Auditorium (Open to public) Anyone who wants to enter a mini-sumo Mini-Sumo Robot competition, We had a packed crowd at the EMSL Auditorium for the MiniSumo Competition. Dan Sisk and the MiniSumo he built using the Gabriel Guillen/Jim Hendricks/Gordon Anderson PC board and design took first prize. We had about six viable robots and a lot of interest. The bus load of students from Southridge and Kennewick High Schools had several almost-but-not-quite-ready-to-compete MiniSumos.
